MINUTES Section for Students in Psychology (SOSIP), OPA Tuesday, July 13th, 7pm Chair: Steve Biggs Secretary: Kim Watson Present: Allan Eng, Kim Gordon Regrets: Karen Fergus, Sandra Jackson, Alberta Pos, and Pavla Reznicek 1) SOSIP BROCHURE 1.1 Allan brought a draft of the SOSIP brochure and asked for feedback. With a few minor changes (add the email address and web site, etc.), and after we run it past Ruth for approval, Allan will arrange to have the brochure printed. Good job, Allan! 2) MENTORSHIP 2.1 Maria gave the old Mentorship file to Allan, and he updated us as to its contents (some letters and memos, and matched mentors-students). The first step is to do some research with those who were matched, and find out how the programme worked for them, whether they've remained in touch with their mentors/mentorees, etc. Kim W will transcribe the info from the file into a mailmerge database so that we can send out letters. Kim G will draft a letter inquiring into the old programme and asking for feedback. 2.2 Steve will draft an article for the fall Psychology Ontario, and will ask us to read it and give feedback. He is out of town 3) ORIENTATION 3.1 Allan will set up an appointment at OISE's orientation for Ruth Berman and himself (or if he can't make it, another SOSIP executive member) to speak re: OPA. 3.2 Kim W. will contact the York Psychology Graduate Students Association regarding their orientation plans, and to arrange a time for Ruth Berman and a SOSIP exec member to speak. 4) INTERNSHIP BOOKLET 4.1 We discussed the fact that the booklet is now out of date, and that we should update the information re: Ontario internships. We could do this by using the OISE and York internship information, as well as by emailing OPA and SOSIP members for any internship settings they know of. We could also send a draft of our information and ask psychology departments to share their internship information, in turn. We decided that our more immediate concern is the Mentorship programme, and therefore tabled this item for future consideration. 5) SOSIP LISTSERV 5.1 Steve will set up the SOSIP listserv as soon as we receive a list of email addresses from Carla at the OPA office. Kim W will contact Carla and arrange to get the email list. 6) SOSIP MEMBERS LIST 6.1 We haven't received an update of the SOSIP membership, but at the same time we haven't submitted our year-end report or financial statement to OPA yet either. Steve and Allan will see that these documents are submitted to OPA. In the meantime, since Kim W will contact Carla for a list of student emails, she will also ask for all student member info, including addresses. 7) NEXT MEETING 7.1 The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 3rd at 7pm, at Steve's place: 524 Douglas Ave (2 streets N of Lawrence off Bathurst). Steve's phone number is: 782-0947.
