February 16th, 2000 - Thesis Contest Winners

SOSIP is pleased to announce the 2000 Thesis Contest winners.  The Master's level award goes to Angela Rosalie Digout from Queens University for her thesis titled Poverty and cognitive functioning in a high-risk sample of Ontario children .  The winner at the Doctoral level was Dr. Karen Sumbler from the OISE, University of Toronto for her dissertation titled Phonological awareness combined with explicit alphabetic coding instruction in kindergarten: Classroom observations and evaluation.  Our congratulations go out to both of them for their fine academic work.  We would also like to thank and congratulate everyone else who made a submission this year.  We had another great turn out this year with 21 submissions in the MA category and 9 for the PhD.  And again we had psychologists from across Ontario (9 this year) who generously volunteered their time in reviewing the abstracts.

A complete list of participants and the judges who volunteered to review the abstracts can be found on the 2000 Thesis Contest Winners and Participants web page

January 25th, 2000 - Tips On Publishing

The December '99 issue of the APA Monitor contained an article that will be of interest to many of us, on the topic of publishing.  Anyone thinking of going on to an academic career (and increasingly non-academic careers as well) will want to read this article describing how to maximize the hard work that you've put into your dissertation.  A link for the online version of the article can be found on the Employment page of the is website.
